Terry White has an article in Adobe how-to magazine Layers looking at how to export documents from InDesign into EPUB format for use with Adobe Reader or other e-book devices. I don’t have nor have I used InDesign so I can’t really say how good the instructions are.

However, the first half of the article talks about the rise of e-books and e-magazines, discussing the Kindle, the Kindle app for iPhone, and the Zinio e-magazine reader. The New York Times has a little article about the coming of ebooks and the death of the bookplate. I remember a time when I would carefully search the catalogs (not on line – real catalogs) to look for a style I liked and then agonize over the font I wanted.

Did I want my bookplate to say “Paul Biba” or “Paul K. Biba”, a big decision in a day when you ordered a couple of hundred by mail. The Spring Design Alex eReader generated positive momentum after it’s introduction and at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, but lost some inertia after that. Ordering delays slowed up the Alex while Barnes & Noble, Amazon and others delivered their wares and sold titles. That’s a shame since Spring Designs worked out two content partners for the Alex in Google Books and Borders.
